Over Training And Getting Shin Splints From Running

Fit 360 Power Hour
Well I never thought this would happen to me but it looks like I have shin splints. They popped up on me pretty quickly. It’s hard for me to accept it but why should I be immune?

Pushing The Limits On Training – I Went Over The Limit

Everything was going great. I was training really hard to lower my time. I really pushed myself and I was eating right as well. In fact a bad meal for me in the last two weeks has been eating Sun Chips with Oven Roasted Chicken Breast sandwich from Subway. Be that as it may, after pushing myself last weekend and then breaking my 5K record after that weekend, my body (more particularly my legs) could not handle the stress of the accelerated training schedule that I was on.

Plenty Of Motivation

I should have taken it easy at first doing more long runs at a slower pace until my legs could adjust. I’m just so competitive though and I really wanted to keep lowering my time. I was also motivated to reach a running time that would surpass a person that I despised. It’s also addictive running against the clock. Every time I would run I would constantly be looking at my Garmin running watch to see my pace.

Not Able To Run In My Last 5K Due To Shin Splints

The worst part about having my new-found sports injury (shin splints) is that I could not run in the 5K race yesterday. I had already registered for the race a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to run in the race really bad too. I was told by many, that if I did run to just run at a slow pace. I did not see the benefit of that so I decided just not to run at all. I think it’s best to let my shin splints have a chance to heal or I will be having these aches in my legs forever.

Ever Had A Food Hangover?

This bump in the road has really depressed me. I pretty much have been deflated not being able to run. Yesterday, I ate crappy food all day long that gave me a food hangover this morning (sorry, no alcohol – that would have been more fun). The depression is over. Luckily for me it was only a day or two long. I will find other ways to train and keep my heart strong for when I am ready to run again. I will most likely schedule a session with Fit 360. They have a great staff with great credentials for getting people into the bets shape of their lives.

Beginners Take It Easy At First – Do Not Over Train

Beginners, please take this advice. Do not over train too early. It will only slow your progress instead of speeding it up. I was hard hard-headed and ignored traditional running instruction and advice. I got caught up in my own pride of trying to run better and quicker times, that I eventually brought harm to myself instead of improving. So pay attention to people that have been there before and take it easy at first. I hope this helps someone that my be overtraining too fast and too early.
